Tragedy in Bangkok: At Least 27 Dead in Devastating Pub Fire

A catastrophic fire engulfed the Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao pub in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district in the early hours of Monday, July 13, 2026, leaving a scene of utter devastation and claiming the lives of at least 27 people. The tragedy struck the venue, which is located near Soi Lat Phrao 1 Road, shortly before midnight on Sunday, July 12, while the premises were packed with patrons. Emergency responders arrived quickly, and firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control in roughly 30 minutes, though the fire had already caused extensive damage to the establishment.

The preliminary investigation suggests the fire may have been sparked by an electrical failure. According to accounts from a musician performing at the venue, smoke was seen emanating from a circuit breaker near the stage, followed by a power blackout and a subsequent explosion. Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, who visited the scene to oversee emergency operations, noted that the fire spread rapidly, engulfing the interior and feeding on ceiling decorations. The human toll of the disaster has been significant, with at least 63 others reported injured, 22 of whom are in critical condition. Authorities stated that the majority of fatalities were likely caused by smoke inhalation rather than direct contact with flames. Many victims reportedly panicked and fled toward the rear of the pub, where they became trapped in restroom areas that lacked adequate exits. Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt indicated that investigators are currently examining whether obstructed fire exits may have hindered evacuation efforts and contributed to the high number of casualties.
